Working remotely can take time to get used to, especially for people who are used to daily face to face interaction. Implementing the following simple tips can help to make each day a bit better and more productive.
Create a separate space for working
Whilst not everyone can have a home office, creating a space that you can step away from at the end of each day is crucial for switching into your ‘working’ mindset and of course to switch out of it at the end of the day. Resist sitting on the couch or in bed and at the very least have a comfortable chair.
Keep a routine
Get up at the same time as you would if you were heading into the office, get dressed and make yourself a coffee. Not only will this improve your mental state, it will also psychologically prepare you for the day ahead.
Make a to do list each day to block out times for different tasks – creating accountability and order to your day
Stick to your regular work hours and switch off when your work day is done
Take regular breaks
Don’t stay glued to the screen for the whole day – take regular breaks to get up from your desk, move around and stretch regularly. Try the Pomodoro Technique – work in chunks of 25 minutes then take a 5 minute break.
Even better, get out for a walk and enjoy some fresh air (unless you are self-isolating)
